It is a great pleasure to welcome another super graphic artist to the artbridge site! Kata Kerekes is an illustrator, a visual storyteller, a true urbanist graphic designer who is a big fan of explosively cheerful colors. Last year, she designed a huge firewall painting for Polaroid, with sunglasses-wearing figures in all kinds of familiar situations at iconic Budapest locations. She is interested in many different topics and styles, you will see it in her portfolio, which is why she is such an exciting artist. She sent us the answers to our recent interview from the side of her three-month-old baby.
What were your first drawings about that you specifically remember?
Instead of the first drawings, a little later, when I was about 10 years old, I spent a couple of days drawing poplar and willow trees on the banks of the Danube in Visegrád. They were brown ink drawings, and I can still recall the flow experience I felt then.

What is your best memory from your childhood?
One is a Christmas present, a collection of pressed plants that my father made, the other is the birth of my sister and the years that followed.
What do you do now, how do you spend your creative days?
In addition to my applied illustration and graphic tasks, in the past few weeks I have been preparing sketches for a silent book, which will be a personal summary of the past year. I'm learning a lot in the process because it's a long-term creative job now.

Who would you be, now, in the past or in the future?
In the past, for one day I would be as cool in the creation as Emilie Flöge or Paula Rego, as knowledgeable an ornithologist as Schmidt Egon. Right now I would try to look at the landscape through David Hockney's glasses or I would also be a botanist. I'm not trading my future, I'm looking forward to it.
Who or what would you take with you to an island?
Everyone dear to my heart and a pizza chef with his oven.
What are you most proud of?
As a creator, that I am not afraid to change the visual appearance I use. As a private person, I recently baked flódne for the first time in my life.
